Babson Student Business Sells Hand-Made Diamond Belts; Company Stresses Corporate Responsibility in the Luxury Industry
A new luxury men's accessory company is on the scene, and they are not making the average high priced cuff-links and money clips.
Orion Enterprises Corp., founded by Babson College undergraduate students Christopher Lehmann, Jason Reuben, and Robert Varvara, specializes in hand-made diamond belts, an item never before brought to the marketplace. "The male connoisseur of style has the ability to easily pay $10,000 for a Brioni suit, $75,000 for a Rolex Watch, and $150,000 for a Mont-Blanc diamond pen, and then they go and buy a $100 belt off the rack at Saks," said CEO Chris Lehmann.
"That just doesn't make sense." Former Tiffany and Co. designer Nazareth Jansezian of Los Angeles, California is designing Orion's first belt buckle, which is fashioned from 18 karat gold and d-vvs quality diamonds.Beyond its unique product, Orion also demonstrates a remarkable sense of social responsibility, as evidenced by its connection with the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF), a charity that supports research and public awareness for an issue that affects men everywhere.
"The proof is in the statistics, men simply don't know enough about prostate cancer. One man dies every 18 minutes from this disease, if we could just increase that awareness slightly we have done our job," said Strategic Sales Manager Robert Varvara. Orion serves this special purpose of educating men about prostate cancer through contributing fifteen percent of all revenue to the PCF.The team of three has also been collaborating with students at the innovative Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, a top notch engineering school that seeks to bridge the gap between business and technology through its connection with Babson, which is the premier school for entrepreneurship in the country.
As one of the first ventures to utilize this connection, Orion's custom box and glass design were developed by Olin student Tal Schwartz.
Orion has also recently partnered with the Wellesley, MA venture capital firm, the Invenio Group (www.inveniogroup.com), a firm that is run solely by Babson College entrepreneurs. Fort Lauderdale Woman Selected for Country?s First "Golden Pageant"
